Whether you want to add a smoky flavour to meat and other foods or use it for cold smoking and curing, the smoke tube is a great tool. A pellet smoker works in a pellet grill by burning the wood inside and releasing smoke. The smoke envelops the food and is absorbed as flavour. It smokes for 2-5 hours, depending on the length of the tube.
Use the BBQ smoke tube whenever you want to add a smoky flavour to your food. While it's perfect for pellet grills for low and slow grilling, it's also great for shorter cooks or even cold smoking. If you are cooking hot and fast steaks to medium rare but still want some woody flavour, add a smoke tube to your grill and let it smoke while the steak is open.
If you want to smoke your cheese cold but don't want it to melt at a higher temperature, use a smoke tube to produce smoke while keeping the temperature low. This will come in handy if you don't have a designated smoker or want to add more smoky flavour to your food.

To use a pellet tube smoker effectively, you must first fill the tube with wood chips or wood pellets until the entire tube is full. Small pieces of wood are best as this maximises space better. Always tap the pellet tube gently on the floor to get the wood in deeper. If there is still some space for a few small pieces of wood, add them in.
Once you have filled the pellet tube, it is time to light it. Make sure your wood catches fire and burns for 6-7 minutes. Blow out the fire and use it in the pellet grill. You can light it with a butane torch, a Brulé torch or a large kitchen lighter, always lighting the tube vertically. Remember to always take safety precautions.
When using a flue tube, it is best to use a pellet grill that can be closed for the best smoking results. If you have an open grill, place it under the grate. When placed horizontally, the pellet tube will automatically continue to smoke. This is the easiest way to inject a smoky flavour.
Smoker Tube
Fill the tube with wood chips, light it vertically and let the flame burn for at least 6-7 minutes, or longer if required, depending on the wind and the type of wood chips.
After letting the flame burn for a few minutes and making sure it burns correctly, blow it out.
Then place it horizontally on the pellet grill. You are now ready to add your food. You would normally use this method to add a smoky flavour to your barbecued meats, chicken, fish and vegetables.
A smoking tube for cold smoking works in a similar way to the hot smoking method, but with slight differences.
After filling the pellet tube with wood, it is lit vertically. Allow the flame to burn for about 6-7 minutes, or up to 10 minutes if required.
